Spain is a country rich in culture, art, design, beauty and history. But like any country in the world, Spain also has its little secrets. And we're about to reveal 5 of them to you right now.

Exquisite beaches, fabulous food, picturesque landscapes, … Behind the dreamy postcard, Spain is much more complex than you think. And we are going to prove it to you. Here are 5 facts about Spain that you probably didn’t know about.

1. Spanish is not the country’s only language

And actually, “Spanish” should be called “Castilian”. Spain counts five official languages, Castilian being the main one. Depending on regions, you might also hear Catalan, Basque, Galician or Asturian. There are other Romance minority languages which are not official but have a special recognition, such as the Astur-Leonese group (bable) and Aragonese (aragonés) in Aragon. Now you might wanna up your language game before you plan to visit Spain. 😜

2. Spain is home to 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites

With 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Spain is UNESCO'S third largest heritage country in the world, after Italy and China. The most famous Spanish UNESCO World Heritage Site is undoubtedly the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudi - the world renowned architect. Started in 1882, the cathedral is still under construction today!

3. Spain had been neutral during the two World Wars

Just like Sweden and other countries, the official position of Spain during the World Wars was neutral, despite the country being one of the world's most powerful countries.

4. Most Spanish people are against bullfighting

You might be thinking that bullfighting is one of Spain’s famous and proudest traditions. But this isn't true. Bullfighting is actually banned in some parts of Spain, like the Canary Islands and Catalonia and in most regions, the majority of people don’t approve bullfighting. The only regions where bullfighting is still a thing are Andalusia and Madrid, but still it is not as prevalent as it used to be.

5. Spain is also about skiing
