How to get a VAT refund on your IKEA purchases in France?
Yes, you can claim an IKEA VAT refund on eligible purchases made in France with Zapptax.
The process is simple: ask IKEA for the correct VAT invoice, upload it to the Zapptax app, create your tax-free form and validate it before leaving the European Union.
The most important point is the invoice. In France, a standard IKEA receipt is not enough. The invoice must be issued to Zapptax using the company details shown in the app.
Use the VAT refund calculator to estimate your refund.
What you need to know
Before buying and claiming your VAT refund, remember these four rules:
- You must live outside the European Union.
- The invoice must be issued to Zapptax.
- The goods must leave the EU with you in your luggage.
- You must validate your tax-free form before your final departure from the EU.

How to get an IKEA VAT refund with Zapptax
Step 1: download the Zapptax app
Download the Zapptax app and create your account before making your purchase.
The app will show the billing details that must appear on the IKEA invoice.
For purchases made in France, the details are:
Zapptax
23 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau
75001 Paris
SIRET: 830 041 844 00028
Always copy these details exactly.
Step 2: request the correct IKEA invoice
You can shop in store or online, but you always need a full VAT invoice issued to Zapptax.
For an IKEA purchase in store
At the checkout or Ikea customer service, ask for: “Une facture avec TVA au nom d’une société.”
Show the Zapptax billing details from the app.
Do not ask IKEA to create a tax-free form. Zapptax will create the official form after checking your invoice.
Before leaving the store, make sure the invoice includes:
- Zapptax’s name and address;
- the invoice date and number;
- the products purchased;
- the VAT rate and amount;
- the total price.
If IKEA only gives you a receipt, use the official IKEA invoice request service to request a proper invoice.
For an IKEA online purchase
You can also claim VAT back on an order placed on IKEA.fr.
During checkout:
- Choose a business or company invoice.
- Enter Zapptax as the billing party.
- Use your own email address.
- Select delivery or click & collect in France.
- Wait for the final VAT invoice.
The delivery address does not need to be the same as the billing address. You can use a hotel, temporary accommodation or another address in France.
Step 3: upload the invoice
Upload a clear photo or digital copy of the invoice in the app.
The whole document must be visible, including:
- the four corners;
- the billing details;
- the product list;
- the VAT amount;
- the total price.
Zapptax will check the invoice and add the eligible purchase to your account.
Keep the original invoice until the refund is complete.
Step 4: create your tax-free form
Once your total eligible purchases in France exceed €100, request your tax-free form in the Zapptax app.
Several purchases from different stores can usually be combined, provided they meet the eligibility rules.
Step 5: validate your tax-free form
You must validate the form at your final departure point from the European Union.
If you leave through France, scan the barcode at a PABLO kiosk before checking in luggage containing your purchases.
A green message confirms that the form has been validated. If the kiosk shows a red message, speak to a Customs officer.
If you leave the EU from another country, you have to complete the validation there.
Without Customs validation, your IKEA VAT refund cannot be paid.
Our PABLO kiosk guide explains this step in more detail.
Which IKEA purchases are eligible?
Most portable IKEA goods can qualify, including:
- home accessories;
- tableware;
- textiles;
- lamps;
- decorations;
- furniture.
Please note: you must transport the goods with you and be able to present them to Customs when validating your tax-free form, including bulky furniture.
Services are not refundable. This includes: delivery, assembly, installation, kitchen planning and other service fees.
FAQ
How much can I get back on an IKEA purchase?
Zapptax refunds up to 90% of the VAT paid. For IKEA products taxed at 20%, this can represent up to 15% of the purchase price. For example, an eligible €500 purchase could earn you around €75 back.
How long do I have to take my IKEA purchases out of the EU?
The goods must leave the EU before the end of the third month following the month of purchase.
Can I unpack or assemble my IKEA purchases before leaving?
No. Keep all tax-free items unused and available for inspection until you have left the EU. Using or assembling them beforehand could invalidate your tax-free form.
What can Customs ask me to show?
Customs may request your passport, travel ticket, tax-free form and every item listed on it. Make sure your IKEA purchases remain easy to access.
